What is Luxury Vinyl?

A photo-realistic reproduction of real wood or stone — engineered for durability, moisture resistance, and easy care. Also known as WPC, SPC, or "waterproof core" flooring.

How It's Built

Why is LVP popular?

Four things changed everything about luxury vinyl in the last ten years.

1. Waterproof construction. Traditional LVP is glued down, waterproof, and is useful for commercial applications and areas with rolling traffic. Modern LVP is built on a rigid core (SPC or WPC) that is waterproof and a popular choice for moisture-prone areas of the home. 2. Realistic visuals. High-definition printing and embossed textures mean LVP can capture wood grain, stone veining, and tile detail at a level that wasn't possible even a few years ago. From a normal standing distance, most people can't tell the difference between LVP and their natural counterpart. 3. Better sound absorption. Unlike laminate, the solid core construction of click lock LVP makes it quieter to walk on. Some modern LVPs even have a sound reducing core that makes it suitable for apartments and condos. 4. Improved Durability. Technology continues to improve, making LVP more durable with its aluminum oxide enhanced finish. Many are marketed as “life proof” and fantastic for families with kids and pets in the home.

Common Questions About Luxury Vinyl

Good for kids and pets?

Absolutely. LVP is water-, stain-, scratch-, and dent-resistant, making it ideal for active households.

Is it hard to maintain?

No. Sweep, vacuum, or dry mop as much as needed. Periodically spray and wipe with a cleaner like the Bona Cleaning System. Wet mopping is not recommended. For spills, wipe up as soon as possible with a dry or damp cloth. Avoid flooding the area and make sure to dry the floor.

Will it match my sample?

Yes, every time. LVP is a digital reproduction, so color is consistent from sample to floor.

Will it ever scratch or dent?

No floor is scratch- or dent-proof, but LVP comes closest. Sharp objects or heavy impacts can damage all hard surfaces.

How long will it last?

S&G has been selling and installing luxury vinyl since it launched, and many of those original floors are still going strong. Proper care is the key.

Where can I install luxury vinyl?

Almost anywhere in your home: living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, home offices, kitchens, hallways, and stairs.

Can it go in bathrooms, kitchens, or basements?

Yes. LVP is waterproof, so it works well in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements. Wipe up standing water promptly and avoid flooding the floor.

Will it work with wheelchairs or other powered mobility devices?

Yes, but we recommend glue-down LVP for offices and homes with powered mobility devices to avoid the click system failing. Ask your S&G consultant for details.
