Care Basics for Every Floor
Keep grit out. Place dirt-trapping walk-off mats at every exterior door, and sweep or vacuum regularly — built-up grit is what scratches and dulls a floor. On hard surfaces, turn the beater bar off.
Clean up spills fast. Blot spills promptly with a soft cloth and never let liquid sit, especially on wood and laminate.
Use the right cleaner. Use the product made for your floor type, not an all-purpose or 2-in-1 cleaner/polish, which can leave residue or damage the finish.
Protect it from furniture. Felt pads under furniture legs, clean wide casters, and glass floor protectors under rolling chairs all prevent scratches and dents.
Never steam or flood a hard-surface floor. Steam machines and wet mops damage hardwood, LVP, and laminate — and can void your warranty.
Will Improper Care Void My Warranty?
Yes, S&G warranties require proper maintenance. Using unapproved cleaning methods or equipment will often damage flooring and void all coverage. Keep your receipts and proof of professional cleaning services in case you ever need to file a claim.
