Carpet Types
How the carpet is constructed matters as much as what it's made of. The three types of carpet are:
Cut-Pile
Yarn cut at the top, creating the soft, velvety surface most people picture when they think 'carpet.' Comfortable, warm, and a strong choice for bedrooms and living rooms.
Loop
Yarn left in loops rather than cut. More durable than plush, especially in high-traffic areas. Berber is the best-known style in this family, recognizable by its dense, looped texture.
Patterned
Cut and loop combinations that create texture, sculpted patterns, or geometric repeats. Hides traffic patterns, adds design interest, works well in formal spaces.
Shop Carpet by Fiber
The fiber determines almost everything else. How the carpet feels, how long it lasts, how it handles stains and traffic, and what it costs.
Nylon
Known for its resilience and durability, nylon has historically been the go-to for high-traffic homes. Holds color well, resists crushing, and handles years of foot traffic without flattening with proper maintenance.
Polyester (P.E.T.)
Soft, vivid in color, and excellent at resisting stains because the fibers are inherently hydrophobic. Being just as durable and stain resistant as nylon, P.E.T. is a good value choice for bedrooms and busy spaces.
Triexta (P.T.T.)
Newest fiber engineered for durability and better stain resistance built-in. If you’re looking for the best synthetic fiber available, a Triexta is the best choice. Triexta is proprietary and can be recognized under the names SmartStrand® and Sorona®.
Wool
The premium natural fiber. Naturally flame-resistant, durable, and remarkably good at hiding dirt. Best for spaces where you want carpet to feel like an investment.
Residential
Residential carpet is made for the way homes are used: bedrooms, living rooms, stairs, and family rooms, with soft comfort, warmth, and quiet underfoot.
Commercial
Commercial carpet (often in tile form) is made for the way offices, retail spaces, and multifamily properties are used: heavier traffic, faster wear cycles, and easier replacement.
Don't Skip the Cushion
The padding under your carpet is a big factor in how the carpet feels and how long it lasts. A premium carpet on a thin pad will wear out faster than a mid-tier carpet on the right cushion. Rest assured, we only carry quality carpet padding, and we will walk you through cushion choices. We’ll even show you pet and family-friendly carpet padding that blocks spills from reaching the subfloor during your estimate.
Brands We Carry
Karastan, Shaw, Mohawk, Anderson Tuftex, Aladdin, Bravada, and our own S&G Private Label, among others. Each carpet we carry has been selected for its feel, durability, and performance. Our curated collection means we only carry quality carpet brands that will last for years.
Installation Backed for Life
Every carpet we install comes with our Lifetime Installation Warranty. If the installation itself ever fails or needs maintenance over time, we come back and fix it for free. For as long as you live on the floor.
See Carpet in Your Own Light
Carpet looks different at home than it does under showroom lighting. Two ways to see it the right way before you decide:
Visit a Showroom
Walk through full-size displays, feel the carpet underfoot, and take hand-held samples home to compare against your decor.
Shop at Home
Our team brings samples to your house in the colors you're considering, laser-measures your space, and leaves you with a written estimate.
